We are halfway into the first month of 2024, how is everyone feeling and doing? How do you feel about the year so far? Are your goals and action steps you’ve committed to going well? If you feel like it’s been going great then bravo! keep up the amazing work! However, if you feel like the first week was challenging and things haven’t gone as you planned, no need to worry. Usually the first week of the New Year is a time for us to rest from the holidays, so even if you accomplished one, and yes I mean JUST one thing you planned, that’s progress. Let’s talk about a few ways to continue moving forward and stay focused.
Be willing to reevaluate your goals and/or your roadmap for your goals.
Sometimes our original game plan may not be the best to stick with for various reasons. Maybe you have to adjust your workout times due to work or your family’s schedule changes. Maybe you committed to meal prepping twice a week but you’ve only been able to do it once. Be willing to pivot and make adjustments so you can keep making progress to your goals.
Consider having a method of accountability.
Whether it’s journaling or calling or texting a friend, this is a great way to help stay the course. While this doesn’t have to be a method for every goal you set, maybe consider this for the goal or goals(s) you find the hardest to stick to. Having someone that checks in with you or that you check in with routinely. A great example of this is your visits with your registered dietitian at well rooted. Your routine visits help you with staying on track with your goals.
Try applying unique and fun strategies to help with accomplishing your goals through the year.
Maybe all you need is a different approach than you’ve taken before. A great example of this we want to share of this is a GOAL BINGO card created my Well Rooted Dietitian Melissa Druien.
1. Create a personalized mind and wellness bingo card with activities you aim to accomplish throughout the year for improved mental health. 2. Choose activities that cater to your well-being, such as mindfulness exercises, self-care routines, or hobbies that bring joy.
3. As you complete each activity, mark it off on your bingo card to track your progress.
4. Strive to achieve a “bingo” by crossing off a row, column, or diagonal of activities. Celebrate small victories along the way!
5. By the end of the year, aim to have crossed off every activity, recognizing the positive impact on your overall mental health and wellness.
6. See the attached cards as an example
Stay positive and keep up the amazing work!
